I have decided my next smoker/grill is going to be a pellet feed unit. From everything I have read, I have whittled the big decision to the Traeger XL and the Yoder YS640. I haven't yet put my hands on either unit or seen one up close so I wanted to hear from anyone that have experience with either unit to see the pros and cons of the units.

It seems every time traeger updates their software my Traeger goes “offline” despite my WI-FI extender that can handle a 10,000 Sq.’ home. Needless to say, Traeger has problems with their WI-FI system (the Timberline 1300 ($1999) was bought in 11/19).

Dec 27, 2012 · Yoder states they designed the board from scratch around a general purpose micro-controller chip and wrote their own code from the ground up in an attempt to provide superior flexibility, efficiency and accuracy. We have not tested Yoder's Pellet Smokers, but they have a very good reputation and consensus among owners is favorable.

Instead, they custom built the controller with software specifically for Yoder and the many variables of cooking and smoking meats. It has proven to be very accurate and reliable. Yes, in the USA Yoder Pellet Grills often cook out in the rain ( see the photo below of a YS640 cooking while snowing ) , but like anything it will keep looking better longer if it is kept under cover.
